Bill received that's not mine

by Judy
(West Milford nj)

I just received a doctors office bill for the second time. I don't know who this dr is. It's in a different county in nj. I called them the first time that I did not visit this dr nor do I know of them, but the bill has my name and address on it. Also on the day that this medical procedure occurred was a day I work till 6:30. They said they would take care of it, but again I got another bill.

Bill received that's not mine

We recommend that you contact the doctor's office about the bill in writing. Explain that the debt is not yours and why.

Make a copy of the letter for your file and send the original via certified mail with a return receipt requested. That way you have proof that the office received your letter.

If the office continues contacting you, you may want to contact an attorney in your area who helps people resolve their collection problems. A letter on the attorney's letterhead may finally get the office's attention. You should not have to spend a lot of money to get such a letter written.

Good luck.
