Bank account

by Dewayne
(Wilmington, Nc, Usa )

I have a debt that is over 7 yours old. It was a charge off from a car repo. My bank bought the old bank that had my old loan. Yesterday that took a thousand dollars out of my account. I've never talk to anybody and my statement says telephone payment. I never said the could do that? Can I fight this?

old debt

Dewayne,

I would absolutely encourage you to talk with an attorney about this. According to my resources, the statute of limitations for most consumer debts in North Carolina is three years. In addition there are consumer protection statutes that restrict the ability of financial institutions to offset debts.

I'm afraid I don't know what specifically applies here, but I definitely think it's worth pursuing. My suggestion is that you can contact a local consumer law attorney with experience in consumer credit/debt collection cases. Find out how to get FREE or low cost legal advice about debt collection from a consumer law attorney here.

Will you let us know what the attorney has to say? You can use the comments link below.
