by jr
(norfolk va)

I have a garnishment from a car I gave back to the dealer, the creditor said they would set up a payment plan but now is garnishing me. Do I have any options or is bankruptcy the only way out?

Alternatives to Garnishment

Jr.,

If your wages garnished and you can't afford that, you may be able to go to court to see if you can reduce the garnishment. But it's probably not be an easy thing for you to do on your own.

Our suggestion is that you go ahead and talk with a bankruptcy attorney to find out whether bankruptcy is even an option for you. Most bankruptcy attorneys will help you understand what your alternatives are to bankruptcy.

Hopefully you'll get the answers you need to make a better decision about how to deal with the garnishment for this debt.
